Meet Julie Fletcher, Owner & Founder of State of Graze

In the heart of downtown Mount Airy, North Carolina, you’ll find a business built on creativity, community, and a love for bringing people together—State of Graze. Founded by Julie Fletcher, this specialty food and grazing company has quickly become a local favorite, known for its beautifully crafted charcuterie boards and unforgettable grazing table experiences.

What started as Julie’s passion for creating artistic, memorable food presentations has grown into a thriving business serving a wide range of customers. From families celebrating life’s milestones to businesses hosting corporate events—and even visitors exploring downtown Mount Airy—State of Graze offers something special for every occasion. The storefront itself reflects that same spirit, recognized for its creative displays, quality ingredients, and welcoming atmosphere. And if you ask the locals, they’ll tell you—her husband Johnny makes the best chicken salad in town.

For Julie, State of Graze is more than just a business—it’s a way to support and celebrate the local community. She prioritizes sourcing produce and cheeses from nearby farms and proudly features a variety of North Carolina–made products both in the shop and on her boards and tables.

Julie’s commitment to small business runs deep. Having grown up in Surry County, she comes from a long line of entrepreneurs. From farming and trucking to retail, her family has played a role in shaping the local business landscape for generations. Her mother, father, and grandparents all owned businesses in the area, including a clothing boutique—Charlotte’s—that was located in downtown Mount Airy in the 1970s. Today, her shop on Moore Avenue sits just a few doors down from where her great-grandfather once owned Hennis Motors, tying her story even more closely to the town’s rich history.

Through State of Graze, Julie is bringing fresh ideas and experiences to downtown while honoring the traditions and community values that define Mount Airy. With a focus on hospitality, creativity, and quality, she’s proud to contribute to the town’s ongoing story—and its thriving small business community.
